The stage was set at the Yokohama Country and Athletic Club (YC&AC) for a compelling Footy Japan Division One encounter between the Kanto Celts and Pumas FC in March 2021. As a photographer, I had the privilege of capturing the intense action from the sidelines.
It was a fiercely contested match. Both teams showcased immense talent, making for a spectacular morning of sports photography.
Battle on the pitch
Despite a dreary, rain-threatened start, the weather graciously improved as the morning progressed. The initial cloud cover eventually gave way to patches of blue sky, providing a dynamic backdrop for the on-field battle.
The high stakes of a Division One game were evident from the first whistle. The standard of play was exceptional, with both the Celts and Pumas displaying intricate footwork and an aggressive, attacking mindset. The relentless energy from both sides kept the outcome hanging in the balance.
Pumas secure the win
The match was a true spectacle, with both teams relentlessly pursuing victory. In the end, Pumas FC secured a hard-fought 5-3 win. From my perspective, they held a slight, yet decisive, edge over the Celts.
I enjoyed watching the competitive spirit, and it was enheartening to see the players share smiles and laughter as they left the pitch. It was a testament to the sportsmanship that defines the game.
Get involved with Footy Japan
While I haven’t had the opportunity to photograph much soccer recently, I often wonder how these two teams are faring. To see more of my sports photography, look at [Golden Hour Futsal on Tokyo Bay].
