Tokyo Snapped: Japan’s Capital in Photos
Welcome to Tokyo Snapped, my guide to the streets and hidden corners of Japan’s capital through the lens of a camera. This website is dedicated to photography and travel within Tokyo. I’ve seen much of the city and I love it all, from the neon-lit areas of Shibuya and Shinjuku to quieter places such as Kichijoji.
My photo gear
- From 2017 to 2021: Fujifilm X-T2
- 2021 to 2024: Fujifilm X-T3
- From 2024 to the present: Canon EOS R5
Even though I’ve left Fujifilm, I still recommend it. But I felt Canon better supports my needs as it has a wider range of camera bodies, lens and a professional support system. Photography in Japan has so many choices! I haven’t used Sony or Nikon, they might find their way into my bag one day. The list of things I want to buy at Map Camera in Shinjuku is endless.
Here are my photo guides, tips for capturing the city’s unique energy, and insights into local festivals such as the Sanja and Awa Odori. Please note that all content is from my own photographic experiences. I hope these images and stories inspire your own Tokyo adventure.
I have to say one thing. While Tokyo Snapped has articles about places I love such as Rainbow Bridge and Meiji Shrine, it is a work in progress. Events such as Tokyo Auto Salon, Tokyo Game Show, and others are ongoing. Some projects I have in the works should increase my time in Shibuya and Shinjuku doing street photography. I’m also looking forward to buying more Canon lenses, especially a long zoom to do birding and aviation photography. It’s exciting to see what the future has in store for us. I just wish there were more hours in the day to everything I wanted!
If you need help planning something or are in need of advice, don’t hesitate to ask in the comments sections. I mightn’t know, but I bet someone else can answer your questions. The city is huge and no one knows everything. Hopefully, more Shinjuku and Shibuya fans will visit to share their knowledge with us. And if you are an expert about cameras and lenses, maybe you could share that expertise too.
