After putting the bag to the test since 2021, here’s my review of its performance, capacity, and whether it’s worth your investment.
Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II: Build quality & design
Right out of the box, the Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II conveys a sense of premium build quality. The materials feel durable. Its stitching is clean.
The bag features a semi-rigid internal frame that helps it maintain its shape and protect the gear inside. The robust construction gives you confidence that it can handle the rigors of outdoor photography.
Gear capacity: What fits inside?
The Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II has been a workhorse. For several years, it served as the home for my Fujifilm X-T3 and the massive XF 100-400mm lens. Even with that telephoto attached, I could still fit four smaller lenses (like the XF 16-55mm and 35mm f/2).
The internal space has become easier to reconfigure. The padded velcro divider system allows me to shrink the camera section to make room for non-photography essentials. But when I buy bigger lenses again, I’ll have the space to accommodate them.
Comfort & ergonomics
Despite its 2.39 kg (5.27 lbs) empty weight, the bag is remarkably comfortable. Thick shoulder straps and a well-padded waist belt do an excellent job of distributing the weight, even when fully loaded. I’ve had no issues with discomfort carrying it over long distances.

- Pro Trekker II’s main storage has thick padding. Opening and closing is done with a quiet, water-resistant, heavy-duty Number 10 locking zipper with plastic tube-covered cord pulls.
- The Lowepro Pro Trekker BP 350 AW II uses a padded velcro divider system. It gives a generous amount of space when you open the main section. Its divider-based system gives you options on how you want to carry your stuff.
- Laptop & Tablet Sleeves: A dedicated “CradleFit” front pocket can suspend and protect up to a 15″ laptop and a 10″ tablet simultaneously.
- All-Weather Cover: For heavy downpours, an included All-Weather (AW) cover. Deploy it from a dedicated pocket at the bottom of the bag to provide an extra layer of protection.
- There are dividers to make spaces and a tiny zip-up pocket for cables and spare batteries at the bottom. It comes with a handle in case the section is hard to pull out. You could leave it out entirely if you don’t need it.
- The rubberized handles make carrying the bag easy.
- External Carry: The bag includes a removable tripod cup and straps that can be attached to the back or sides. An external side pocket easily fits a one-liter water bottle.
- It is internationally carry-on compatible which makes it great for travelers.
- Newer versions of this bag are part of Lowepro’s Green Line, which incorporate recycled materials, though the design and performance remain the same.
Downsides: Things needing improvement
No bag is perfect. Here’s what could be improved:
- Size and bulk: This is a large bag. While great for the outdoors, carrying it on a crowded Tokyo train can be challenging. Just remember to carry it on your chest per local rules.
- Security: The zippers are lockable, but locks are not included. For a bag designed to carry expensive gear, this feels like an oversight.
- Tripod system: Attaching a tripod using the detachable cup isn’t as intuitive or simple as the integrated systems on some other bags.
- Color choice: You can have any color you want, as long as it’s black.
