Jonanjima Seaside Park offers an exhilarating experience for aviation enthusiasts. Its proximity to Haneda Airport provides a unique opportunity to witness planes up close as they approach the runway, making it a prime location for plane spotting.
Perfect for Haneda plane spotting
Despite its somewhat remote location in an industrial area, the park’s coastal setting offers unobstructed views of planes on their final approach to runways 16L and 16R. The aircraft fly so low over the park that you might feel as though you can almost touch them. There are two spots to use for plane spotting:
- The seawall: This location provides clear views of the airport. While the uneven surface of the boulders may not be suitable for a tripod, the elevated position is perfect for handheld shooting.
- The grass area: Situated behind the beach, this elevated area offers a stable base for a tripod. However, be mindful that parts of the seawall fence may obstruct your view.
Recommended lenses
For the best shots, a long lens is recommended. A 100-400mm lens is ideal for capturing detailed images of the aircraft, both as they approach from a distance and as they fly directly overhead. While a shorter lens can be used, a focal length of at least 150mm will yield the best results.
